Profile in courage??

Well the sentence has been handed down: Madoff was sent to jail for 150 years!!. The question for the day is was this courage or not. Did Judge Denny Chen administer justice or pass the buck because it was the political thing to do? Depends on where you sit. If you believe that this was a just sentence given all we have learned about the Ponzi scheme then you are justified in your cheering for his sentence. It is true: he did steal from a lot of people, foundations, and that is wrong and punishment must be meted out. However, when you look closer at the issues one must ask this question: were and what were they thinking in terms of these glowing reports?? It is a fact that this persons firm was beating the rate of return every year he ran this madness, yet NO ONE and I mean NO ONE said anything, they took the money. Yes I know the next statement, this is why schemes work. Of course they do...but it does not excuse people from not paying attention to reality: there are good years and bad ones. His were always good years and that is the reason I question the sentencing from the Judge. Shame on Bernie for the callous disregard he showed in stealing all of the dollars his firm misappropriated from unsuspecting persons and foundations, but a larger shame for the greed shown by those who benefited from this larceny. They had a greater responsibility to challenge the data and then blow the whistle alerting authorities to this theft for going illegal profits thereby having courage even in loss exposing this man for the thief he will always be. The judge fails twice for bending to the crowds need for blood, and for allowing integrity to escape the room. No courage today smae story same ending same stuff. Later

The need to rest

This is Saboth. To a lot of us it is Saturday, but to those who are aware it is Saboth, the rest day of the Old testament. The day the Lord made for his purpose and the day we are the most active. Ever notice how we act on saturday? We are slow to rise sluggish and have no real energy. Have you noticed that we like to do nothing?? The reason is our clocks made in the image of God are slowing down, the need to rest is great on this day.In fact: it is the day God made , to rejoice, worship, and rest. On this day we renew ourselves, take a moment to take in the day. Yet we are constantly moving about getting things done working on the Sabbath. We go to the office (home or the work place), do errands and then wonder why we are not charged but depleted. We go to worship yet are not fulfilled. We stay at home resting when the body demands action, all because we do not rest on the Lord's day. Something to think about but just in case you you have an issue, look at the calendar!! See the start and the finish then read the genesis account of creation and after that ask yourselves: why and what has happened to cause this to be??? The answer in another blog...Later

stories without words

What a day of noise. Have you noticed the amount of talk that goes on. I am a abuser myself. It seems that all we as a society do is talk. We talk about the economy, talk about politicians talk about the weather and most of all each other. We listen to talk radio the most violent talkers of all. Rush, Savage nation or whoever: all we hear, do and say is talk. When are we quiet? When do we as a Nation, community, neighborhood, home, family just take a moment and be still? Why is it so difficult to be still and enjoy silence? Is it the fear that by talking we reveal we really have nothing to say? Or is it the fact we murder half our mind? The prophet suggest this, that when we speak we are expressing the inability to be at peace with our thoughts and these expressions tell others we live with our lips!! What an indictment of the society where we live. That the only way to live is by the amount of noise we make. The amount of racket we allow and the lack of stillness in our lives. I wonder what would happen if we listened more than express ourselves? Would we learn more? Could we absorb more? Or (shudder) might we hear the rants and raves of others who serve no purpose than to disrupt progress and by this definition churn up the foam of distrust so pervasive in our country? We need stories without words signs and wonders without comment...or maybe peace in comfort...what say you???

Only the beginning

Hello there all of you that blog or follow bloggers. I am Harrison Wilson and this has been a long time coming, only because i did not know how to set a blog up!!! Thanks and a tip of the hat to my dear friend and fellow blogger...she knows who she is and how well another story.

The daily question is a place where we have exchanges on ideas no matter what position you have or may take. Liberel, conservative, moderate does not matter all are welcome. However (there we go again a Reagan saying) please have something to say!!!! I am so tired of the screed that passes for discourse, the vulgar (Latin for common) parlance that masquerades as intelligence, the positions so outlandish they are laughable. This daily question is a serious place for serious people.

So.... let start the conversation. The news has made a lot of fun of politicians caught in scandals of a sexual nature. My question is: what happens when a nation looses it's shame. I am concerned that the US has no shame any more. In politics, social issues or morality. Please share your comments and I thank you for reading!!!
